È come quando arrivi al mare la prima volta dopo tanto tempo. Ti metti a correre. E mentre corri ti levi i vestiti e li butti in aria, come fanno nei film americani. E quando ti tuffi c’è quel momento che resti senza fiato. È solo un momento. Ma è proprio in quel momento, che non capisci - perché hai acqua sopra, acqua sotto, acqua nel naso e nelle orecchie - che hai paura di morire, anche se non lo sai. Perché è tra un respiro e l’altro che aspetti di vivere. E non ne hai la certezza. È tra un respiro e l’altro che c’è la speranza. Né prima, né dopo. E la speranza è qualcosa che per un secondo rimane a mezz’aria, prima di aggrapparsi con tutt’e due le mani al prossimo respiro. In fondo è tutto qui: respiro, speranza, respiro. Poi c’è tutto il resto, ma tutto il resto, una volta che l’hai vissuto, sono solo ricordi. Respiro, speranza, respiro. E riemergere ogni volta, felice di essere vivo.

Perché io so che il caffè ti piace amaro, che non sopporti di non essere puntuale, che preferisci il salato al dolce, che il vino ti piace bianco e freddo, che ami il vento, e odi la nebbia, che dormi sempre su un fianco, e ti piace fare l'amore la mattina, che quando fai la doccia prima ti insaponi e poi apri l'acqua, che prima di andare a letto controlli se hai chiuso la porta, e se hai un dubbio ti alzi, che leggi sempre il giornale partendo dall'ultima pagina, che ti guardi le mani quando stai per dire una bugia, che ogni tanto balbetti, oppure trattieni il respiro, che odi i film dove ci mettono mezz'ora a passare da una parte all'altra dello schermo, che lasci sempre la sigaretta a metà, che non metti mai la testa sott'acqua, che ti piace guardarmi e stare in silenzio, perché dici che ci sono momenti dove le parole non servono. Perché io so tutto questo di te e non so ancora chi sei?
